Ramshorn or pond snails wanted!

Post by Jackielee »

Hi guys, I am coming down for the July meeting and I need snails for my puffers. If anyone can start tossing some in a bucket or tank to save up for me I would greatly appreciate the effort. Not the Malaysian snails but pond or ramshorn types would be greatly appreciated. I can use a huge amount so any and all gifts will be appreciated by me and my puffers. Thanks. Jack

too bad you didn't make it to the meeting this past weekend and let me know. I have thousands of ramshorn and pondsnail "pests" in my tanks. I usually scoop a couple hundred out each water change and trash them. My Ptyochromis sp. salmon will eat some of them but that's my only snail eaters at the moment. Kyle

Family obligations kept me in KC that weekend though I wanted to come hear you talk. We are fellow fish keepers from afar.

Would have loved to have gotten your snail excess.

I've pretty much eliminated them from my system, but I think I can scare up a few to bring to the meeting. Another option to consider is to go to a local stream. You can often collect hundreds of snails off the rocks in a few minutes.

Would the snails from the stream give the puffers parasites?

There is some risk. That is true. I can't say how much.

I would fear bringing in stuff with wild crawfish and snails. Probably they would be okay but not worth the risk. Thanks. I still wantand need snails! :D
