What are the odds?

Post by dennysfishroom »

What do you think the odds are that a 40 gal breeder that I bought used probably 15 to 20 years ago were made using tempered glass? I've got 4 of them and all have a hole drilled for 1/2 inch PVC pipe. I'm thinking about putting in a bigger hole to avoid plug ups. What are my odds? Denny

That's not far off the time when I was still a retailer. I don't remember 40s as having tempered glass. But if there is already a drilled hole, I believe it is safe to say that they are not tempered. I've always heard that tempered glass cannot be drilled.

You are correct in saying tempered glass cannot be drilled. It can shatter into thousands of pieces if you try. However, the manufacturers can drill the piece of glass and then have it tempered. I'm going to have to think about what to do. I also don't think I've got a drill bit as big as I'd like to go. Stay tuned. Denny
