You can find "t-shirt iron-on transfer" paper available at any office supply, Walmart, Amazon, etc.
- Be sure to note whether the particular transfer paper is compatible with laser printer or inkjet printer.
- Paper is available for light fabrics or dark fabrics.
- The light-fabric style does not print white. Any white areas will print clear. So black letters against a white background, like below our logo, will print as black with no background. The t-shirt will show through where the logo is white.
- Dark-fabric transfers print on a white background. This way, black letters will show on a black shirt because the media provides a white background.
- Note whether or not the image needs to be mirrored to print. Some printers require a mirror image, which you put face-down on the t-shirt and then iron to print. This makes the image right. This is generally the case with inkjet printers. Other printers have you print the image the normal way. This may be the case with media for laser printers. Follow the directions that come with your transfer media.
- You can print these on any color of t-shirt, on front or back, but my preference is to use a neutral gray shirt, since it color-coordinates with both dark- and light-colored pants.
- Iron-on transfers work on any color shirt, but always consider whether the logo colors will show up on your shirt color. For example, the black logo box, and the black letters below it, would appear to blend in on a black shirt, unless you use dark-fabric media which provides a white background. A neutral gray shirt can be a good choice, because it color coordinates with almost any color of pants.
