Can you keep mosquito fish in a pond year around as long as the pond doesn't freeze over?

The mosquito fish, Gambusia affinis, can be found in local waters. So I image it will overwinter just fine as long as the pond doesn't freeze to the bottom.

Mine do pretty well in the koi pond if I keep part of it open for the winter. I lost all of them in my mud pond from winter kill though.
