So I went to WUW today and bought six of these guys for six dollars. I assume they are the same ones in discussion in this thread. I have no idea what species they are either but thought yall might be able to help. The fins on the healthiest/most mature looking ones have a bit of a rust color. I would love it if someone could ID these guys. Thanks
(I know the pictures are rough but I am no pro)

Look up Picta and Falx and see how the internet photos compare to what you have.

I am looking at google for both picta and falx and then looking back at the fish in the tank and honestly I am not sure. I think mine are juveniles and right now they look more like picta but the little bit of red I see in some of their fins make me think they are falx just coming into color. Whichever, they seem to be very similar fish. I think I may go pick up a few more because at $1 each, that's not bad for either.

Here's a thought. Go out to Aquabid and look for wild bettas and compare the pics there. Especially those sold by Wetspotx. I'm pretty sure that's where WUW came from.

They were one dollar a piece and I got six fish. As for where they came from, the guy sold them (get your grain of salt ready to be taken) said that someone came by and sold them about 60 of them. I would think if they would have actually made an order of these they would know what they are other than "wild type betta". I think I don't have an eye for bettas because I think they do look like the betta imbellis in the aquabid picture as well as many of the picta and falx I have seen online. Here is another picture now that they have settled some and regained a tiny bit of color.

I'm leaning towards imbellis here, but I want them to be falx. What size tank are you keeping them in and what is aggression level between them all like.

Edit: here's a website that has all the pros, you might want to ask them what it is

As I have done more research and mine have continued to color up more as they acclimate I am 75% sure they are betta pictus. I have them in a 29 gallon with 8 harlequin rasboras and they pretty much ignore eachother, no aggression issues so far.

When you say pictus do you mean pictas?

Should be Picta. They are all jumpy so cover the tanks well. I lost more wild bettas to jumping than any of the cause of death. :D
