Rogers city water comes from Beaver Lake. I use it right out of the tap, adding only a dechlorinator. I keep an assortment of South American and Asian fish, with no problems. I'm not keeping any African cichlids, but Denny breeds them. I don't know if he's making any adjustments to water chemistry to harden it or increase pH. I imagine he'll pop in with advice.

I'm on a well, but water hardness has never been a problem. It's so hard I've never been able to measure it with the hobbyist test kit I've got. The pH is way up there, too. Great for East Africans, but not so great for rams and discus. I run the well water through a water softener, add chlorine, and then pass it through a carbon filter. This is for the whole house, not just the aquariums. I don't treat for the fish at all. Denny
