Cat-tails

Any of you native collectors ever go to areas where you could harvest some cat-tail roots? I was thinking of trying to grow them in my ponds for next year. Just for something different. I've got some dwarf cat-tails in my waterfall pond, but they've never put out anything but leaves (reeds) so far, and then the deer trimmed them during our drought. They had increased in numbers since last year when I put them in. Denny

I don't generally collect in water that has cat-tails in it, mud = yuck.

The only place I've seen them recently was in the Flag Springs area and there weren't enough that I would feel comfortable harvesting any roots. It was a tough year up here for all types of plants.
