Firemouths

Post by dennysfishroom »

I was looking in my 135 yesterday, and I saw movement on the bottom of the tank. I was thinking that one of the filters was really kicking up debris until I looked closer. All of a sudden, I realized that the firemouths had paired up and spawned. From the size of the young, it looks like they may have become free swimming about a week ago. I have been noticing that the pair had been overly aggressive with the rest for several weeks now. I'm thinking I'll try to siphon the young out, and put them in their own tank. I wonder how much growing they'll do before the auction? Denny

I bought some of those fry and last month got a good spawn from them. Great looking fish.

The firemouths I have now are Thorychthys passiones instead of Meeki. More yellow, but a deeper body top to bottom. They spawned once, but wasn't able to save any fry. Denny

They are about 3 inches. Probably won't take them to the auction just because of the hassle of bagging the bigger fish. Denny

Bummer, but I understand. What would it take for me to get some?

By the way, I got a new group of Lamprologus ocellatus but they are still a bit too young to spawn, but they will soon.
