Duckweed Infestation

Post by dennysfishroom »

Interesting. I got 4 Tilapia bythobates several months ago. In reading up on them, it indicated that they ate plants. Not too much of a problem with me since the only plants I seem to grow well are duckweed. I had them in a smaller tank and I'd put some scoops of duckweed with them. It did disappear, but I couldn't tell whether it was because they were eating it, or for some other reason. I finally decided to put them to the test about 2 months ago. I had an empty 30 gal long with the surface covered by about an inch of duckweed. No light was getting through, and the tank was dark. They seemed to be doing well in the tank, but I didn't see any difference in the duckweed. A few days ago I was down looking at the tank, and it appeared to be lighter. Then I went down today, and the duckweed was entirely gone. I'm going to have to start moving them around to all my duckweed infested tanks, and see what they can do. Denny
If it was easy, anyone could do it!
