Velvet?

Post by uwfbeachbum »

My platy died yesterday, and I've looked up the behavior I noticed before she died. From what i was reading, I believe she might have had velvet. She laying in a plant and began swimming eraticly. She then just floated to the bottom and died. I didn't see the gold "dust" they mentioned, but possibly I didn't know what to look for. Any ideas? Also will i need to treat my whole tank? I have 1 platy, 1 beta, 2 cory cats, and 1 pleco.

Thanks!

The symptoms you describe could be attributed to several diseases, poor water quality, or just old age. Since the fish has already died and you mentioned no others with symptoms, I'd not bother medicating. It might be useful to do an extra partial water change-- especially if it has been a while since the last one.
