Sump Dilema

I replaced the water pump on one of my systems last week. I'm getting a lot better water flow now, but I'm starving my pump. I've got 2 plastic tubs as a sump, and they are connected by a 3/4 in. pipe. The water in the side that doesn't have the pump stays high enough to go out the overflow, but on the pump side the water is just barely high enough to cover the water intake. I think I could probably solve my problem by installing another connector between the 2 sumps. Sounds simple, but I would have to shut the pump off and drill the new holes. The problem is that the plastic sumps can be brittle if the drilling surface isn't supported. I can't afford to crack one of the sumps while trying to fix my problem. That would just be a bigger problem. I'm going to have to think about my options very carefully. Denny

How about one giant tub? Or maybe a home-made siphon tube between the two? You could make it out of pvc
