Swordtails in outdoor tubs

Has anyone done this?
I was thinking of moving my Montezumae outside for the summer.
I'm going to get a 300-500 gallon settling tank for my pond, heavily planted.
Any reason that would be a bad idea?
I've got a dozen, about 5 months old.

Swordtails are prolific jumpers. I'd worry about them jumping out of an uncovered pond.

Yeah, I'm sure I could fashion some sort of a guard/ lip on it.
I have a great blue heron that comes during the summer also.
So I have that to think about.
I could just do a separate tub with underwater plants, and cover with fine netting.

I put alvarezi outside several years ago. I brought in about 70 inch long juveniles.

Wow, 70 that's great. Mine should be old enough to breed by warm weather.
Did you use those black stock tanks?
I'm putting in water iris & pickerel weed, maybe some impatiens & cannas.

Water lettuce would keep them from jumping.
