Howdy all;
Here is the information
Link will be provided once uploaded
We will tentatively meet on site at 10:00 am. I will get there sooner so I can post signs.
I may or may not have a crew with me.
The original plans called for us to have a cook out there as well. So I need to know how many have grills and get the food. I might have someone run into town to pick up the food or get some coolers and stock it before the trip.
I would like to know how many people are coming to this event and who can bring what.
Needed:
People
Seins
Nets
Good Weather
Provided:
An experience you will never forget and maybe some cool fish.

Welling Oklahoma is where we will be.
About 30 min from the Arkansas border.

Just east of Tahlequah?
I may make it. I don't have a net or an Oklahoma fishing license.

Yup just east of Tahlequah.
Plenty of us will have nets and you can be an observer if any of us get stopped.
Realistically we have never been questioned by park officials.
Sometimes they want to see what we are doing but the fish t shirts and collecting containers they mainly want to see what we catch. Mainly for curiosities sake.

What does Oklahoma's law say about collecting bait fish/non-game fish?
Nevermind, I looked it up myself. A fishing license is required for any person participating in the use of a seine or dipnet for the taking of non-game fish in Oklahoma. You may also not take more than 200 fishes

.
I am guilty of collecting fish without a current license, usually because I wasn't planning on being in the state I was in or because I hadn't planned on collecting on a trip and hadn't renewed my license yet that year. I don't think it is wise though for an organization to ignore the laws of their state or any state when organizing an event such as this. The money collected from those licenses goes to supporting the conservation of the habitat and animals you are enjoying. I will step off of my soap box now.

I follow the laws of my state and have never collected without the proper paperwork in order.
Been doing this way to many years.

I didn't say or imply that you were breaking or had broken any laws.
My point was in inviting Sundance along and saying that if you got checked he could simply be an observer. This sentiment, or varieties of it, has been stated by many native fish collectors over the years. I would even say that it is pervasive in the native fish hobby. The "oh, we are only going once (or we aren't keeping anything) so we don't need to worry about a license, we aren't really fishing" attitude is in my opinion unethical. Now, I am not innocent in this, but it is usually when a spontaneous collecting trip happens, not during a large scale, organized event.
Yes, this is a pet peeve of mine. Yes, it is probably motivated out of guilt. Just thought I would cover that before anyone asked.

Well I have issues with out of state license costs.
But that is my issue.

In my opinion, the license requirements put forth by the various states are perfectly fair, and usually not totally unreasonable. People that complain about the cost are generally ignorant of the benefits derived by the profits, and also tend to be the people that would pay big bucks for a concert or professional sporting event.
I looked it up. Sundance, for a mere $10 you can purchase an Oklahoma non-resident 2-day fishing license. Add another $8 and you can fish for five days. For less than the cost of most above mentioned events, $38 will get you a non-resident fishing license good until New Years Eve. What a deal!
Just for comparison sakes....
Missouri
Non-resident Daily fishing permit (for residents and non-residents)- $7 per day
Non-resident fishing permit- $40
Arkansas:
Non-resident 3 day- $11
Non-resident 7 day-$17
Non-resident fishing permit-$40

I'll get a license so problem solved, though without equipment I may actually be just an observer.
Would you mind PM'ing me your cell # so I can call as I get close?
In short - cya there!

Also how close do you live to Kevin?
If close enough I would like to send some fish back with you for him.
If not then I will have to make the April Meeting.

I got your number Herp. I'll call around 10.
I don't live "near" Kevin and I'll be traveling light so maybe April meeting?
Thanks,

For the record Sundance had his license and was legal to collect.
So did you and your fishys make it back fine?
If not I can always bring you some more.

The trip was great and so are the fish!
Here are a couple of pics...

One man, one seine.

A little help.

I had a license, but they had the courage. (The water was pretty cold.)
Of course, you get to enjoy more than fish when collecting...

Water dog? Or Salamander?

Frog eggs.

Unknown plant. Maybe terrestrial?
90 miles back home in the tank...

Madtom and Orange Throat Darter

and Orange Throat Darter and ??? Darter?
Great fun. Great fish. Thanks for extending the invite!!!

Unknown plant looks like parrot's feather. Nice picks.

Don't know if you saw that other darter was a stippled darter.
I know the plant looks like parrot feather which was one of the comments I made there but how it was growing was bothering me. The only real green I saw was above the water line.
That is why I thought it might have been a terrestrial plant that got caught and waterlogged or a marginal plant.

Could be emmersed growth, most plants won't grow both emmersed and submerged leaves, emmersed generally takes priority. I have grown glossostigma, and a few stem plants like this.
