about a month ago.....

Post by sskruzr »

I bought 3 what I thought were good size gold severums from WUW. I guessed that I had 2 males and a female. The 2 males have the spotting on the face where the female didn't. Then yesterday I noticed some sand moved from the front right corner of the tank. When I just fed them I noticed only 2 severums eating. When I went in the search of the third, she's in the back guarding a clutch of eggs. These are in the hundred community tank with angels, dojos, and gourami. Needless to say, the other fish are on the other half of the tank. Hopefully I can snitch some babies from them before they dissappear. Yes Jack, pictures please.

Pics or it did not happen! Congrats by the way and have a happy and safe new year's eve.

Severums are one of the SA cichlids I have never spawned! I saw some real nice Kyhole cichlids today and they are another I have not spawned...yet!

Where were the keyholes? I've been thinking about picking some of those up again.

Make sure she did not pull them and is hiding them in a corner or under a rock. I have had some big cichlids do that lately. A cat and mouse deal with the fry. Makes it fun. If they are gone, better luck next spawn.

I doubt she's hidden them. Last night and this morning, she's all over the tank. If I could sell the black knife I'd have a tank for the pair.

From what I have read, it is not uncommon for the gold severums to be sterile. I hope yours are not.
