I decided to upgrade QuickBooks and ordered from newegg.com. They usually ship by UPS ground. Shipping from not-too-distant Memphis, I usually get my delivery the very next business day. But this time, newegg shipped via the US Postal Service. USPS tracking shows my package going north from Memphis to St. Louis, and then east! to Cincinnati (which is in the opposite direction). It has been four days so far. The USPS tracking site's latest updates are already two days old, so who knows where my package is now. Probably New Hampshire. UPS and FedEx are fast and update their tracking data within minutes.
I dislike the term "snail mail," but the USPS seems to be living up to it.

Re: Why the US Postal Service Loses Money
I ordered several books before Christmas. The first batch was shopped via USPS almost a week before the second batch was ordered. The second batch was shipped FEDEX. The second batch arrived two days after ordering. The first batch arrived a week later.
