Geez, first Dude died, now Mrs. Smurf???

Post by LoveMyPleco »

Hey guys, I need some suggestions. I have a 3-4 inch female
(Electric Blue) Ahli that has developed a swollen abdomen,
overnight. She was fine swimming eating yesterday and looked fine
last night (10:00 or so), I left for work early (5:00) this morning
and lights were still out so didn't notice anything and tonight her
abdomen was obviously swollen.
Its swollen very near if not right at the vent area. Not like
Malawi bloat but I guess could be. Very distended looking.
I moved her immediatly to the Q tank and when I out her in it looked
like something was coming out of the vent area, not poop, not blood,
but something, you could see it coming out and dispersing in the
water.

Since writing this and getting up several times to check on her, she
has died.

Any ideas what this could have been? All of a sudden? No one else
in tank looks odd, this is an established tank. Water perminenters
are great, ammonia at 0.

Man, getting attached to you fish and them dying almost makes this whole thing suck!!!

Thanks,

Jenn

Sorry, but I haven't a clue. You're right. It does suck when you lose a favorite. It is better, though, to lose them quickly. I had a favorite ram that was sick for several days before she passed. No matter what I tried, nothing helped. Now that was terrible.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

Perhaps constipation? I've never had a fish have this, but I've read warnings about fish not getting their fiber. Daphnia was usually recommended.

Sundance may be on to something, what kinds of food are you feeding?

I'm feeding one of the best around in my opinion, Hikari Gold and Hikari staple. for the smaller ones in the tank I out in Omega One Cichlid flakes.

After she died and I could poke a little more (oh that sounds so awful) it was not hard, its so soft and fluidy. I could have sworn I saw little bubbles coming from the area of the went/swollen area.

I may have accidentally killed her myself, when I removed he from the tank I gently pressed on the area to see if it ws hard or soft, and that when the fluid type stuff started coming out when I put her into the water. Then she started to swim around and the sewlling seemed to go down some. so I left to post on here and when I went back to check on her it was swolen several times the size it origianlly was.

After she had died and I was looking at her I thought it felt like she was shuddering but it was actually air in her as I moved her around..is that odd?
