09 Events in Tulsa OKAA

Post by Herpchat »

OK here is what we have going on in Tulsa this year;

March - Collecting Trip at Barron Fork Creek, Arkansas River Drainage around Tahlequah, OK.

Sept - Behind the Scenes Tour of the Tulsa Zoo focusing on their Aquatics.

We also have a Poker Run being set up where members pick up a card at each pet shop and try to make the best poker hand. We also discussed the possibility of you all doing this and having us come up to participate in this.

We also talked about some of us showing up at your meetings and you all have open invites to attend any of our meetings.

Is the poker run for motorcycles AND cars? Sounds cool.

Love to get in on the behind the scenes tour?

Thanks for the open meeting invites! What day/time?

Thanks,

Our Meetings are the day after yours so the 2nd Sunday of the Month.

The Poker Runs are basically where you show up at a petshop and pick up a card. You can even car pool.

We typically meet at 2 pm but are talking about changing it to 1 pm

Ha! It is a two seater. I've only heard of motorcycle(scooter) Poker Runs, that's why I asked.

I'll try and talk the wife into it. (by car if in winter)

Thanks!

It was an idea from one of our crazy members and I was like cool, sometimes its the thinking out of the box that yields the greatest returns.

He has not only checked it all out to find what stores would welcome it but also came up with some good rules and is now more involved in the club.

It looks like it will work out great and now OKC will do its version of it as well.

I will post the final version as we iron out all the details.

But right now it looks like a great way to get things going in the club and it looks like half of the entry fee will go to a gift certificate to one of the stores and it will be the winners choice.

I typically do runs with my bike for scenic routes but I'd love to see all the T-town fish stores.

Are you including big box?

Big Box?

As in Petco and Petsmart?

If that is what you are asking not only no but you can fill in the rest.

I do need to clarify something here.

Our Petcos and Petsmarts are generally supportive of us as much as they are allowed to be.

We in turn do not bash them because we want to at least keep things civil.

We do have a number of LFSs that we totally support because they are great guys to deal with. In any sort of activities of this sort Petco and Petsmart will not be included because of corporate policy (1) and because we believe events like this should only help the LFS that support us directly (2).
