I didn't have any good photos of a jewel cichlid (Hemichromis bimaculatus) because the specimens in stores are always too young to show good color. So, a while back, I bought four juveniles and threw them into a 70-gallon community to grow up and color out. They've been coming along nicely, and I was rewarded with their first spawn last Saturday (photo below). The male is still guarding fry, but he's got them hidden at the back of the tank amongst the plants, so I have yet to see them. Hopefully, they'll survive in the community long enough for me to get a shot of them, too.
