AS IN HEATER USE , WOULD USING DOUBLE SPONGE FILTERS DOUBLE THE FILTERING COMPACITY ? I KNOW ITS A DUMB QUESTION BUT I NEED CONFIRMATION FOR PEACE OF MIND.
EXAMPLE: TWO HEATERS IN A 100 G TANK. ITS 5 WATTS A GALLON. YOU COULD USE TWO 250 WATT HEATERS.
USING TWO 40 GALLON SPONGE FILTERS WOULD COMPLETE FILTRATION IN A 75 G TANK IF ONE 80 GALLON
FILTER IS NOT AVAILBLE.

Re: DOUBLE SPONGE FILTER USE
Yes, it would be okay, and probably help out with the filtration better than one. When one needs cleaned and you rinse out some of the bacteria the other one will still be at full strength.
Re: DOUBLE SPONGE FILTER USE
Also, by using 2 sponges you are actually increasing the overall amount of active surface area for filtration to occur. I believe that by using two "40 gallon" sponge filters you are not just getting "80 gallons" of filtrations, but probably closer to "100 gallons." I put all the gallons in quotes because sponge filter efficiency is as much based on what you are using to run it as it is the filter itself.
