Hello All,
We're in the market for a house! (Yay!)
I may get a fish 'room'! (Double Yay!)
How am I going to move my livestock?
Denny and Michael, I know you've recently gone through this. Are there any best practices, tips, etc you could share? What can I do to prepare?
Thanks!

Buckets with a battery powered air pump is the best way. Make it to were it won't slide around and such. On your tanks, make sure to keep your substrate and filter media wet. Wrap blankets and pillows around your tanks and tie them off or tape them off so they stay together and place a tarp over the tanks.

It helps when you are just moving to a new house in the same city, as long distance moves can be bad news. If you have some overlap between vacating the one and moving in to the other it is pretty easy, especially if you have (or can borrow-and if it is soon, you can) some tanks to have them set up at the new place to just transfer the fish to. For the number of fish you have buckets would probably work well. When you are doing the scale of Denny or myself you end up bagging the fish which takes a LONG time.

Moving Fish
That's really exciting. What's your time frame? I've got several fish Styrofoam boxes you can borrow when you get to that point. If you can go right into a cycled tank, that certainly makes things easier and safer. Also, get as much water out of the tanks before moving them. That wet gravel is really heavy, and you definitely don't want to torque your tanks while moving them. It's really pretty easy with a local move. We'll probably inum\ndate you with advise. Denny

Awesome. Thanks, guys.
We're still shopping, but as we looked at houses I was thinking - "and here's where the 75 would go..."
It will probably be a local move. Less than an hour's drive at most.
I'll keep you posted as we know more.
Thanks!
