Cory breeding

Post by dennysfishroom »

I've set up 5 groups of various cory species to try to breed today. We'll see how that goes, and hope Mike orders blackworms pretty soon. Denny

Sterbai, aeneaus, paleatus LF, albino (probably paleatus). Not too far away from trying to set up some barbs, too. I'm going to have to do some tank shuffling to get that done. Denny

When are we ready for worms? I'm looking at getting a breeding group of cories also.

I'm still okay on worms. I didn't realize you guys would be wanting to order so fast when I ordered a pound. I fed about half or two-thirds of mine, and the rest were finally starting to deteriorate, so I froze them. I'll order just half a pound next round, but I'm not really ready for more.

Well, the albino cories spawned today. Now we'll see if I can get the eggs to hatch, and then the fry to survive. That part is almost harder than getting them to spawn. Denny

Don't know how many, but I do have at least some that have hatched today. It's hard to tell whether the eggs have fungused or are just getting ready to hatch. Now we'll see if I can get them transitioned into actively feeding fry. Denny

Funny thing. Years ago when I was raising angels hot and heavy, I always had some albino cories in with babies. Well one night the wife calls me at work and sez there's a bunch of eggs on the sides of one of the tanks. Figured they were the cats so I had her peal them off the glass with a razor blade and toss them in a tank I was hatching angels. Needless to say, I was lucky enough to hatch them out and raise them right along with the angels.

I'm going to have to really start feeding the parents well. There are a lot of fry, but even more eggs that didn't hatch. The separation of the 2 is the hard part. I'll have to put the fry in a tank in the next week, and wouldn't you know that we're going to be out of town next weekend. I'll have to hope they are big enough to scavenge so they don't all starve to death while we're gone. After that, we have expectations of being home for awhile. Denny
