10 gallon aquarium top

Post by stpierce »

I just bought a 10 gallon metaframe tank that I am trying to get back into quality form. I am doing well except I am not sure what to do about a top for it. It does not have a lip to keep a top from sliding around like most modern fishtanks.
My 2 thoughts I had so far were to put some of those no slide rubber circles (like the ones on the bottoms of laptops or other electronics) and then put a glass/acrylic top on those so it just rests on top of the tank
Or I thought about using some of my leftover silicone from resealing to attach some sort of lip to the inside of the tank so the glass/acrylic would rest flush with the top of the tank.
I am going to set a light fixture on top of the tank and grow plants in it.
I am completely open to suggestions on whether to go with acrylic or glass and also on how to actually create the top itself. Thanks for reading.

Though I don't have any particular recommendations for building a top, I definitely recommend glass over acrylic. Acrylic tends to sag, and it sags very badly when you put lights on top to heat it up.
