New guy and Some Questions
Been out of the hobby for about 16 years. I have a new 35 gal that is going well but im going to start a 55 and i would like to include some kribs my questions are
1 are kribs and rainbow cichlids the same ?
2 do they have diff. color varieties types? any one have pics?
3 how hard would it be to get 2 pairs in that tank?
help would be great if anyone has time.
Looking forward to getting in the hobby once more

Re: New guy and Some Questions
Kribs and rainbow cichlids are different varieties of cichlids. Actually even African and South America to boot.
There are different color varieties of both Kribs and Rainbows.

Good luck welcome back and enjoy the journey. Good folks here on this forum to help you in many ways. If you are ever in KC look me up, I will corrupt you further.
You could have pairs of both fish in a 55. They will tolerate similar water conditions or at least they have for me.

Re: New guy and Some Questions
I had a pair of kribs and a pair of rainbow cichlids in a 55 gallon. The only problem I had was the kribs kept on eating all the rainbow cichlid's fry.
Re: New guy and Some Questions
"Kribs" come not only in a variety of color patterns, but also include 4 different species (in the hobby).
You might want to look at some of the more exotic varieties from the species Pelvicachromis taeniatus, P. subocellatus or P. humilus. These will all look very familiar in body shape if you like kribs.

Out of all the species and color varities, Pelvicachromis taeniatus moliwe is my favorite but they are hard to come by and more pricey. Are you looking at the pair of rainbow cichlids in worlds under water?

Re: New guy and Some Questions
I agree with kribkid about the moliwe but I can second that they are more rare and pricey as I have sort of been checking for the past couple months. I have some p. taeniatus Nigerian reds that I like but my group of 7 juveniles (1-2") and they started getting too crowded in a 29gal.

Re: New guy and Some Questions
How big are the ones that you have? I have a couple juvies that I can get rid of and I think one of them is a male, but since my water has a high ph there is a higher probablity of there being more males than females in my little group.

Re: New guy and Some Questions
I have one that is 1 1/2 inches that looks male. The only thing is that they don't have eye spots. I hope that doesn't matter. I don't know how much I'd want for one.

It will be great to have another new face at the meeting. You can find meeting information here: https://nwaas.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=38. I haven't posted the details of the upcoming program, yet, but will soon. Corey Mohrhauser will be doing a talk and demo about repairing broken aquariums.

He'll be a lot more colorful when he gets in breeding color, too. Denny
