No there were no fry or wigglers.

Gonna leave the pair together and load them up.

I may try the other with the large male but I wanna be able to pull her in a hurry if need be so it'll be Saturday at the soonest.

For those of you that have laying awake in bed at night wondering if and when these dempseys would spawn again, you can sleep easy tonight. They spawned today. Here some pics of mama and the eggs.

Now for another surprise

Post by sskruzr »

It looks like the other 2 are going to spawn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought the other small one was another male but the 2 have cleaned a spot pn the bottom of the tank so I placed another pot plate in the bottom. I'm thinking they're gonna spawn sometime tomorrow. I hope Denny has a lot of room for growouts!!!!!!

Well the other pair is busy loading up a flower pot now with a ton of eggs. Oh my gosh!!!!!!!

Should be interesting. If they both batches hatch, I'm gonna have to keep the fry apart and know which are the parents, just in case we don't see any electric blues. If that's the case, there's gonna be a lot of feeder JD fry out there for free!!!!

I'm assuming each pair has one fish from each group I had???? Are the fish from the same groups both sexes or the same? If we don't have any EBJD's we'll have to decide our next step. I can hardly wait. If we get EBJD's, we'll only have 25% max. The rest we can give to Jack to use as feeders. Denny

Great news. I am anxious to hear more as they develop. Hope you have a bunch. Darn things spawned too soon as a couple of them almost ended up in my tanks. Dang.

Were both of the original fish males, and both of the new fish females? Free-swimming Tuesday or Wednesday? I'm anxious to see the babies. Hopefully, there will be some to see next when we come over. Then the long wait to see if we've got any EBJD's. Denny

Yep the first 2 were males and the last 2 females. I'm hoping we'll have swimmers tomorrow. There won't be many from either pair but I will keep track of which babies go with which pairs so if we get EBJDs from one pair and not the other, we'll know which ones are the golden geese.

Well looks like no babies from pair 2, still some wigglers with pair 1. Think I'll snatch the next batch from whoever.

Darn hybrinds are a challenge. Takes just the right combination to get healthy viable fry from these darn things. Keep trying. I have had similar luck with the Thai Silk flowerhorns. Wonder what that darn blue gene does to fish.

Well it pains me to say, but I see no fry from either pair. Maybe in a nother week someone will spawn again and I'll snatch the eggs.
