Neosho national Fish Hatchery Tour Picnic- 4/30/2011

Post by dennysfishroom »

Please use this thread to indicate if you are going to join us in Neosho for the hatchery tour on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11am. Tell us how many people are coming (so we don't run out of food), and what you'll be bringing for the "potluck". The club will supply the meat (hot dogs, hamburgers, Brats, etc), buns and drinks. Should be a fun and informative day.

Gail and I will be coming. Gail will probably have some sort of dessert for the potluck.

We still have a little over 2 weeks before the tour. I hope more of you are planning on going than have signed up so far. It would be embarrassing if HAAS had more people there than we did. Denny

I am planning on going, too. Probably will bring at least Mattie, but I will know for sure closer to the date. I will also decide what I am bringing later.

I managed to get the day off, so I plan on being there. Not sure what I am going to bring, though. I am sure most of you would not want to eat anything that I make.

Sadly I enjoyed the pacu and large catfish but since I did not want them to suffer by selling them to a pet store i killed all of those fish. Should not keep those giants but I enjoyed them and took good care of them for a couple years and now they are gone. :( Will have to settle for my salad this time at the picinic.

Please keep us posted on the weather and if the tour will be taking place since some of us are coming from a distance. Darn weather forecast has not been friendly for outdoor activities lately but we hope it will not mess up Saturday. Right now they are talking about showers for Saturday but they have a hard time getting it right day to day.

We will keep an eye on it, but probably won't make any decisions until late Thursday or Friday. We'd probably go with it if the forecast is just for scattered showers. Might adjust the picnic, but a little rain may not hurt. Do you want me to bring the 30 with me? I don't have a top or light for it, but it has some gravel and I've got some sponge filters and maybe a HOB filter. Denny

So far I've heard of about 5 people coming from HAAS and maybe 7-8 from NWAAS. It would be most helpful to have an idea if anyone else is coming as far as deciding on how much food we should bring. Please let us know. The picnic is the only thing we need to know about. They should be able to accommodate whoever shows up just for the tour. So far it looks like there's only a slight chance for showers Saturday, and hopefully that will be in the late afternoon or evening. I'll post out final plans on Friday morning. Thanks. Denny

The forecast is not exactly perfect. What do you think is it going to be on or off? Dang weather is always so unpredictable. Just let us know so we can plan accordingly.

Thanks,
Jack

The weather forecast is for rain late in the afternoon tomorrow (around 6-7pm). I think we should have good weather for the tour and picnic. I just talked with Dave Hendrix, the hatchery manager, and he's all set to have us there. He's even going to reserve an area for our picnic for us. He's excited and we're excited, so see you all there tomorrow. Tour should start at 11am, so you may want to get there just a little early. It does look like there will be other people at the hatchery, but we're all scheduled and reserved. See you all tomorrow in Neosho. Denny

We will be heading that way just hoping the 30% chance is just 30 % somewhere else. If something changes or if it is pouring all morning please let me know.

Thanks,
Jack

So far, we're having a beautiful morning. Depending on which weather forecaster you listen to, we may have some rain this afternoon, but hopefully after we are done. We may be under a roof on a pavilion for the picnic, and I'm taking an umbrella just in case. Regardless, it should be a fun day. Hope to see you there. denny

Huge thanks to the staff at the Neosho National Fish Hatchery for a fantastic tour, thanks to all involved in setting up this event and providing food for the picnic, and finally, thanks to everyone for making the drive. It was a great day, with only a little light mist, and the tour was excellent. Plus, I found my dream job. Now, if only they will hold off hiring for that position until I graduate!

For those who missed the Neosho Fish Hatchery Tour today, just let me say that you didn't miss the tour. You missed the special VIP TOUR. It was fantastic. Our very special thanks to the staff at the hatchery. Hopefully, we'll have some pictures or a presentation at some point in the future. Denny

Great tour. Thank you so much! Sorry we had to bug out before the food was prepared. I should have volunteered to cook during part of the the tour and then I could have snuck a snack! Very enthusiastic people there at the hatchery it was wonderful. If you did not go...you missed it.

Thanks to Denny for organizing the tour and big thanks to the guys at NNFH! David and Rod were very welcoming to our group, and Rod did a fantastic job giving the tour. Not only was it informative, but Rod is a funny guy and very entertaining. The weather turned out to be perfect for the picnic.

Thanks also to the HAAS gang for joing us!

At some point, I'll post some pictures. Kenna took some, too. Hopefully, she'll post as well.

Wish I could have made it! But thanks to Denny for all the hard work he put into this trip for the clubs ( and the others who helped). Denny is the kind of guy who really helps this club work!
