What kind of brackish fish you planning on catching? Can I put my order in now?

Feel free to make requests, but there is no guarantee.

I have no idea what I will find. I will be on Hilton Head island. I will have about 4 hours total to do my collecting. I won't have a guide, and I will only have my dipnet and a cast-net.

K Let's have some bumble-bee gobies, some monos, a couple of scats and anything else you might get :D

What is swimming around there that u can put in a tank? I really don't need anything.

Well, nothing that you named, unless it has been released from an aquarium. :)

Mummichog and Sheepshead are my personal favorites. There might be some filefish, gobies or pipefish, but who knows until I get there.

Ahh, the problem with common names, though that was a fine picture of a sheepshead. That was the saltwater food fish called a Sheepshead. I have eaten those, they are very tasty and often considered a trash fish.

The sheepshead I am refering to is Cyprinodon variegatus or the sheepshead minnow. I found some nice pictures here:

It is 5:30 am. I am in South Carolina. I am headed out to look for fish with one of my teaching friends. It is pitch black and my principal took pictures of alligators yesterday on the golf course. You can't ask for much more!

So far I have rainwater killies (I think) and a single/couple mollies. Collecting is difficult in the dark with only a flashlight in your mouth.

Slipped out the ditch in front of the motel during my lunch break.

nice little mollies....nice colors

definite rainwater killies (previous killies turned into gambusia by the light of day )

Sheepshead minnow ! YAY ! only one so far, but there is still this evening.

Out of curiosity how are you planning to make the trip back with your collection in "Original Condition"

I am headed back today. I have 3 sheepshead minnow, a small colony of mollies, and one rainwater killie (I think).

I have the fish packed in my luggage. They are double bagged in Wal-Mart fish bags, then packed in a styro, then they are inside my GI rucksack. They will be in the bags about 12 hours which shouldn't be a problem. Since my layover is in Atlanta temperature shouldn't be a problem if they get left on the runway for any length of time. We will see how it works, this is my first 'experiment' with bringing fish back this way.

I also have some nice souvenirs from the beach including a shark tooth and two shark eggs.

All of the fish made it home just fine.

I will be at the meeting this Saturday. Unfortunately I am not a camera guy and don't have any pictures. I will sure tell some stories though.

I got back at midnight last night. I am exhausted and at work today.
