Ruby Green Fry! Help!

Post by babynurse_pjn »

Ok... so I need some guidance on this guys. I've been noticing one of the Ruby Green's I picked up at the auction has been slowly growing a larger "chin"- when I looked closer at her tonight, you can actually see that she is holding... A lot of little fish in there! What do you all suggest I do at this point??? I'm assuming I need to put her in maybe a 10 gallon cycled tank (with pump, heater, O2, etc.) and wait for her to spit them out. I know I need to take her out following, but how soon? I'm thinking she's due to release them any day now as big as they already are.

Generally, they hold for about 28 days. The eggs hatch at about 7 days, and then the fry are carried for an additional 21 days. I usually remove the females any time after the eggs hatch. Do provide some cover for the fry. Usually the females are not to aggressive in chasing the fry, but why take the chance? I usually keep the female with the fry for another 3-7 days just to give her a chance to recover before putting her back with the female. Good luck. Denny
If it was easy, anyone could do it!
