How did this happen?

Post by dennysfishroom »

I had really bad luck trying to start seeds in the garden last year. This year I thought I had it all figured out. I put cylinders of hardware cloth around each cluster of seeds (with a top on it, too). So I went out to see how we had faired through the storms last night, and the seedlings were gone. No tunnels underneath, no missing lids - what is going on? The only thing I can figure is maybe the smaller birds are able to get their beaks through the wire to get the seedlings. Frustrating. Denny

Are you letting your chickens near them? :)

Maybe cutworms snipping them off?

not really sure what it looks like but I know some herons/cranes/egrets will eat seeds and with long beaks maybe they could reach them?? Kyle

Not really sure what might be going on. The plants I got in pots seem to be doing fine. It's just the seeds I try to start. There are no seedling remain either. Everything is gone. Next year I may have to start my seeds in pots, and transfer them when they are bigger. Denny
