Cory spawn

Post by Sundance »

I've had a potential spawning group of albino cories set up for several months with no activity. A few days ago I just happened to look in the tank and noticed eggs. I removed them and ended up hatching about 50 fry. The surprise is that I had a red lazer cory male in the tank also, and I'm noticing that some of the young are not albinos. That should be interesting. If that's the case, maybe the albinos were C. aeneus, and the red lazer is just a color variety. If so I hope I can get the red lazers going again. I had spawned them once just as we were traveling between Indiana and Arkansas, and ended up losing the young because I couldn't feed them daily. I'll be really interested in seeing what I finally have once they get bigger. Denny

I think the red lazers were a separate species.

I only had the one male red lazer left, and I was short on albino males. My other red lazers were victims of the move. Maybe by back crossing the normal colored cories, I'll end up with more red lazers. I suppose it would even be possible that some of the dark babies are red lazers???? If you're going to breed cories, you do have to have a lot of patience and view the hobby on a much longer time scale than some other fish. Denny
