Cardinal Tetras

Post by Herpchat »

Well tonight I am setting up a spawn of wild caught Cardinal Tetras.

These guys are 100% straight from the Amazon River to my tank so they are not the inbred ones you find in the pet shops.

I think their color exceeds what you would normally find.

Now if I can get them to actually spawn and raise babies.

Could you describe the parameters you trying to induce them to spawn?

Basically the issue is hardness, I am bringing the hardness down to 30 ppm with pH of 6.0. There was a research study that ran those parameters and they had a number of spawns under those conditions.

What are you going to try? Temperature drops? Water change simulating rainfall? Or nothing at all and hope they get the job done? Putting plants in with them?

I have switched them over to blackwater at 30 ppm.

Very subdued light and lots of live food.

They should do the rest.
