Floating Plants for a Discus tank?

Post by paramedic07 »

I'm just curious after ruling out frogbit and duckweed, what kind of floating plants or plants that have lilly pads, are there for a discus tank?

My discus are thriving, for curiousity's sake, they already had a minor growth spurt in 3 weeks. Not surprising seeing their parents are just over 8 inches in circumference.

Its been a while since this was posted but i figure late help is better than no help.

About any floating plant will suffice. Water lettuce and or water sprite would be my first choices, they will grow under almost any light for the most part. If it was me, i could consider sword plants, and jungle vals, or something similar that is reed like. This is close to what they would encounter in the wild (their dark vertical barring is used as camouflage when swimming in areas with these reeds.)

i understand your tank is bare bottom, but you should consider adding some sword plants, or vals in pots.

i just picked up some water sprite this afternoon after searching for it forever. havent found water lettuce though.

i actually thought about doing the swords in the pots, didnt think of jungle vals though.

Water Lettuce can be found at most out-door pond (water garden) supply locations.
