Do You Want Some Live Blackworms?

Post by mewickham »

I'm going to place an order for live blackworms from this source, recommended by the HAAS gang: http://shop.easternaquatics.com/product.sc?productId=1

If you like, you can add onto the order. You would be responsible for picking up your worms at my house in Rogers on the day that they arrive-- probably Wednesday. The price would be the same as I actually end up paying, rounded to the nearest dollar. It will probably work out to $33 for one pound, or $17 for a half pound. If you want to order, go to https://paypal.com and click on the "Send Money" link. Follow the instructions to send money to my account (info@mikewickham.com). If the price ends up being less, I'll refund the difference when you pick up your worms.

I make no guarantee beyond what the shipper offers to us.

Live blackworms are very easy to keep. I use a mini cat litter pan (10" x 14"). I place a pound of worms in it, in about an inch of water, and place the whole thing in the refrigerator. The worms should be rinsed every day at first, but as quantities dwindle, and they clean themselves out, they can be rinsed less often. No aeration or feeding is necessary. They last for weeks.

To rinse the worms, I merely stick the pan of worms under a faucet and run pure cold water to fill it up. Then I let the worms settle and pour off the dirty water. Repeat a time or two until the water is clean. Stick it back in the fridge.

Fish go nuts for these worms, so here's your chance to spoil your fish and have some fun watching them worm wrestle!

Just send $17 to your account. Drop me a note when you expect delivery and I'll watch for your notice.

Is there a reason for Eastern Aquatics? The "1 pound" bags that Ray was auctioning from them looked pretty skimpy to me and they are a bit more expensive than California Blackworms (www.aquaticfoods.com) who are usually very generous. I'd like to go in for a half pound but I want to make sure we will get our money's worth.

The only reason I chose Eastern Aquatics was because I heard someone at HAAS saying the worms had fewer leeches, and fewer internal parasites because they weren't cultured with fish. The California worms are cultured in trout ponds. So I thought I'd give them a try to see for myself.

But I've always been happy ordering from aquaticfoods.com, so I'm happy to switch back and save us a little money on top of it. (Though the prices seem pretty much the same once we hit two pounds ($63 vs $66.) So, if it makes a difference, just tell me who you want me to order from. I'm planning to order Sunday night, assuming they'll ship Monday.
