Knowing that those sorts of things might be in my pond makes me a bit weary every time i go to stick my hand in.

My roomate keeps a 3" snapping turtle in an aquarium in his room. It eats feeder goldfish and is very good at it. Probably for the best of your koi that you kept that turtle away.
